It’s a Trap: Busy Keeps You From Being Well-Scheduled
Busy is a badge worn by so many entrepreneurs, like calendar overwhelm equals success.
Y’all, it ain’t!
In order to create the freedom we want in our business as entrepreneurs, I recommend that we shift away from using, or even thinking, “busy” or “overwhelmed,” especially when it comes to your calendar.
Think Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi: “It’s a trap!” Busy pulls you into reacting.
The upgrade: well-scheduled.
Well-scheduled puts you in the pilot seat.
From MY calendar, a real-life example of what could have been a busy day (February 4th, 2025):
6 am hot yoga followed by hot Pilates
Hosting 'How To Double Your Referrals' for a Zoom room of Realtors
Three one-to-one meetings with amazing Women Entrepreneurs Living Childfree
A session with my fashion stylist to select my keynote dress and other speaking outfits
A three-hour networking event ending at 8 p.m.
Why it was well-scheduled instead of busy:
Fifteen-minute breathers between meetings: water, puppy love, quick reset
One hour between workout and work: breakfast and calm start
A real lunch away from the keyboard: meal prepped and ready
Pre-event unwind: light TV and dinner before heading back to the office to network
By bedtime, I was tired, Yup! That last hour of the networking event, I was trying very hard to keep the yawns off camera.
Set the mindset, shape the schedule, hit the goals.
Your MOREmentum Maker:
Swap “busy” for well-scheduled each time the word appears in thought or speech.
Identify your buffers: how much time will you have between meetings? Do you have self-care scheduled? Meals ready if you need to eat quickly or time set aside to eat? What FUN is in your schedule?
Better with a friend: ask a friend, family member, or networking partner to join you in shifting from “busy” to well-scheduled.
You own the business and you own the clock! Choose well-scheduled, control the day, and have your calendar reflect your vision.
