The sun dipped below the horizon in Cabo San Lucas, painting the sky in strokes of gold and violet. I sat in the sand, waves crashing around me, surrounded by seven- and eight-figure entrepreneurs, and yet, I felt like I didn’t belong.

My strength had always come from pressure. Like a diamond forged from carbon, my resilience was formed in fire. My mother, a single parent, taught me to survive through hard work and sacrifice. I followed her example, married young, had two kids, and did everything: ran our auto business, worked UPS mornings for the insurance, kept the house running, the kids thriving… all while being told I was lazy, fat, and stupid.

The emotional toll chipped away at my worth. When the marriage ended, I was left with a house, no support, and two kids depending on me. I had no savings, no resume, just sheer will. But that’s when everything started to shift. Kind neighbors, once dismissed as “weird church people,” started dropping by with cookies, coffee, and unconditional kindness. I didn’t get it at first. But eventually, I said yes to one of their invitations, and that yes changed everything.

Faith became the solid foundation beneath my feet.

I rebuilt. I created a national women’s networking organization. I coached women to share their Signature Stories. I helped others grow their confidence and income. But behind the scenes? I was still juggling debt, burnout, and self-doubt. Cabo forced me to face it. I had to choose: keep living a half-truth or stand in the full, messy, unpolished version of my story.

So I said yes again, to starting over, again.
